Carpe Diem
Seize the Day
Daily miracles hanging above pavements in the deep heart’s core.
my personal monkey shows me the ages of women
awakenings and dyings.
Come inside, go inside
The doubting Thomas
Laying and laughing
Laying of hands
Lay your hands in my lap
Lay down.
I am interested in human physicality, animality and our need for each other. I like the monkey in us.
Modern culture is obsessed by a fear of ageing and death. The hospital or the funeral parlour step in to protect us from death’s physicality and the experience can be sanitised. In more traditional cultures, washing and handling the dead body is a celebrated ritual.
Grieving can also be an unexpected business. Not necessarily quiet and dignified - it can be anarchic and sometimes life affirming.
Creating a world with its own character and atmosphere, has led me to work in book form.
