My work centers on storytelling. This image is part of a longer narrative entitled I Gotta Make It To The Woods…(If I Can).
I combine photography of real places with photography of models I have constructed. The models are made in a low-fi, obvious manner, designed to show the mechanics of their building and demonstrate their lack of reality. The surfaces are often collaged or covered with my own photography to create a fragmentary semblance of naturalism. They are carefully lit in an artificial manner to create an atmosphere that echoes the photographed reality.
I’m interested in achieving an aesthetic with a lively juxtaposition between what is real and what is construct – creating a world in which the viewer momentarily questions the reality of what they see.
