PENELOPE AND THE CITY
Weaving, destroying and weaving again

The Italian word trama means both the structure of the text and of a textile; the English word text derives from the Latin textus, which means to weave; it is possible to use the expression urban fabric to refer to the physical structure of a city.

Playing with the meaning and etymology of different words, my project develops connections between the action of weaving and telling a story, in a book or in a city.

In the first part of my project, weaving is a way to understand the meaning of a text, while in the second part it is the concept that allows me to link stories and people living in the same area.

The final part was developed from a series of interviews run with the local community in an area about to be destroyed, and it uses the images taken by the residents with disposable cameras.
